Conceptual Differences

SmartGo 1 was essentially dealing with a single file (with perhaps multiple games) at a time. SmartGo 2 deals with multiple files, each of which can have multiple games. For example, Open Folder used to force all games into a single file; now you can easily work with games in different files.

The new tabs in SmartGo 2 allow you to configure each tab to match the games and tasks contained in that tab. Just switch to a different tab for a different activity.

User Interface Changes

The UI is all fresh, and some of your favorite features have moved:

• Tabs: The 'Library' and 'Matching' tabs are now on the top, along with the new 'IGS' and 'Problems' tabs.
• Toolbars: Click on the 'Tools' icon in the top right to see the palette of tools along the right side; many of the toolbars that were on the left have moved there.
• Find: To open the Find toolbar, click on the 'Find' button on the navigation toolbar above the board.
• Library of Games: Some of the File > Library of Games functions can be found in Tools > Options > Library. Some can be found by right-clicking on the Library tab and choosing Edit Tab. To open multiple library files, simply click on the Library tab and choose File > Open or File > Open Folder.
• Menus: Insert New Diagram has moved from the View menu to the Edit menu. Most toolbar commands can now also be found in the menu.
• Comment: Comments are now shown below the board. You can turn the different panes on and off with the icons in the top right.

Installation

SmartGo 2 installs in a separate directory, so you won't lose any of your current SmartGo settings as you switch over.

SmartGo 2 uses a real installer, while SmartGo 1 did not. If you ever want to uninstall SmartGo 1, simply delete the installed files.

System Requirements

SmartGo 2 is designed for Windows XP. It also runs on Windows 2000. You may be able to run it on Windows 98 or Me, but we don't officially support those platforms at this time.

Processor requirements are the same; SmartGo 2.2 uses 45 MB less memory than SmartGo 1.5 while adding 8000 games.
