Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add games to SmartGo's library?

Click on the Library tab, then choose File Open to add games from a single file, or File > Open Folder to add games from many files (e.g. the GoGoD collection). Check 'Save files opened as a Compressed Game Collection' to combine all the separate files into a single file for performance. SmartGo automatically filters out duplicate games.

Why do I need to activate the software after 15 days?

We give you a 15-day trial period so you can try out all the features of the software. Once you decide that your Go needs SmartGo, you purchase the serial number to activate SmartGo.

What is SmartGo's upgrade policy?

Your purchase of SmartGo 2 includes free upgrades to all 2.x versions. Customers purchasing SmartGo after April 1, 2007 will also get a free upgrade to version 3.0, whenever that gets released. Take a look at recent feature additions.

Can I run SmartGo on two of my computers?

Yes. See answers to this and other licensing questions.

Does SmartGo run on Vista?

Yes, SmartGo 2.6 has been tested to install and run well on Windows Vista.

How strong is SmartGo?

SmartGo is not rated, and we make no claims as to a particular kyu level. In test games, it usually gets ahead in the middle game against other strong programs, and ends up winning about a quarter of the games.

Where are the games and problems stored?

The professional game collection is stored in a file called SmartGo.sgd, the problem collection in SmartGo.prb. Both files are installed in the same folder as SmartGo.exe. You can choose View > Panes > Files to see the list of files in the Library or Problems tab. Right-click on the header of the file list to add a column to see the File Path.

Why does SmartGo require Windows XP or Vista?

SmartGo has been designed for and well tested on Windows XP, and also works on Vista and Windows 2000. You can run SmartGo on Windows 98 or Me by holding down the Shift key while clicking OK in the startup alert, but we don't officially support that platform. Hold down Ctrl to permanently bypass the alert. We welcome your feedback on any issues you find.
